Give them strenght
I’ve been there.
It was 2001. Portal Games had folded. I had no money. My bank accounts were frozen. Debt collectors were knocking. I was done.
I posted a short message in the Polish RPG discussion group—and then I shut myself off. All my dreams had shattered. I sat in front of the TV, numb. These were some of the grimmest weeks of my life.
And then I received an email from Tomasz. He had worked with Portal as a contractor.
“I saw your message in the group. I know you’re feeling terrible. It may seem like it’s all over. I wanted to share a little story with you.”
What followed was a deeply personal account of a very dark moment in his life—and how Portal Games had helped him survive it. I was stunned. I had no idea what he’d gone through. And certainly no idea that Portal Games had helped him.
“Ignacy, don’t give up,” he ended. “You bring value and joy. Get back to what you do best. Bring Portal Games back.”
So I did.
Tomasz reached me in my darkest moment, and with his powerful story, he gave me hope. He gave me strength. Without that one email, there would be no Portal Games today.
The industry is collapsing. Tariffs are crushing companies, one after another. Dreamers—people who poured their hearts into their creations—are facing their darkest hour, watching their dreams fall apart.
Not all of them will survive. But some might.
Today, they need your help. They need money to survive tariffs, but they also need strength to fight for survival.
Send that email to the company you love. Tell them what their work means to you. Let them know how their games have touched your life.
They need you now.
Be that person. Be Tomasz.
